Tulips At Long Stems

Tulips are one of the first cultivated flowers in Turkey, brought to Europe by the Dutch in the 16th century. These prized bulbs were the sign of wealth and prosperity in Holland, some rare varieties would sell for the price of a house at the day. Thankful tulip prices are not what they were in the 16th century, being one of the most cultivated flowers in the world.

We get most of our tulips locally from Van Dyke Farms in New Jersey, they grow some of the best tulips in the world locally in Jersey! We also carry the full line of Dutch Master Tulips grown in Holland as well as the impressive French Tulips, Parrot Tulips, Fringe Tulips, and More. We also grow a selection of tulips at our local farm in Collegeville Pennsylvania about an hour away from our retail store just outside Philadelphia.

Tulips come in a variety of spring colors with some of our favorites being the fringed parrot tulip, the orange princess tulip, flaming parrot, and more. Tulips are a bulb flowers which means that you can plant their bulb in your garden and they will come up in the spring with their gorgeous flowers.

Growing Tulips In Your Garden

Tulip bulbs should be planted in the fall before the ground freezes, they must be planted the proper depth for each variety and you should use a bulb tone fertilizer on the bed. Tulips are heavy feeders and they will need their soil refreshed with bulb tone every year. Make sure your beds are properly tilled before adding the bulbs, this makes it easier for the plant to grow and thrive. Long after your tulips have bloomed and the green leaves begin to shrivel you should dig up your bulbs, you may notice that many of them have multiplied over the year (This is a great sign that your bulbs are healthy) Store your bulbs in a cool dry place like a garage or basement until the fall when you go to plant them again.

Tulips are a great addition to a hobbyist garden with so many varieties on the market and their ease of care and replicating they are a fun and unique gardening experience.
